Evening wear can be tricky; putting a simple day-to-day suit won’t cut it, especially if you are attending special events such as galas, opening nights and fancy cocktail events. But there are general rules you need to follow if you wish to look the part, while feeling like you came out of a James Bond movie (Skyfall anyone?).
Rule number 1: Always wear something that you feel comfortable in, don’t project yourself as that statuesque model that you saw on GQ magazine, it might fit him but will it fit you? Rule number 2: Choose the right lapel (either a Notch, Shawl or Peak, depending on how you wish to look, the last two are definitely more refined) Rule number 3: Pick the right accessories, don’t be afraid of silk bow-ties and smart socks, at the end of the day, this is your chance to add your personal touch to your look, with designer pocket squares and silk scarfs for that extra refined look (only remember to keep it in theme with the whole outfit) and last but not least, Rule number 4: It doesn’t necessarily have to be “just plain black”, you can go for Midnight blue and still look fabulous.
To back up the last sentence, In this latest editorial, we have teamed up once again with London-based brand Without Prejudice, and we are showing you guys how we styled some of the smart jackets from the latest Autumn/Winter 14 collection.
Our first look is focusing around the Kingsley Velvet Jacket, perfect for any cocktail event, this jacket features a notched lapel and is single breasted. The velvet feels luxurious and it’s one of those jackets that will make you stand out from the crowd. Remember, if you are wearing velvet, never go for an all-velvet head to toe look!
Matching the Without Prejudice jacket, a pair of skinny navy trousers, and the Loveridge Bone white shirt. The shirt features mother of pearl floral buttons, and an interesting smart subtle design that fits perfectly “the evening-wear theme”.
I’m finishing the look with a pair of navy suede moccasins and a white satin bow tie, this helps to keep the focus on the beautiful jacket and doesn’t become a distracting accessory.
