Dame Vivienne Westwood delivered another powerful message during her MAN SS17 show, and used her platform to speak out with a video directed to President Obama to stop pursuing Wikileaks Julian Assange; what is really interesting about the Vivienne Westwood show, is that the designer and the brand are never too afraid to talk politics, climate change issues, and really anything that could be controversial. Which is major, since most fashion houses tend to stay clear from these topics to avoid taking sides.
Either way, the MAN show itself was a celebration to both men and women, with clothes that aren’t just for him, nor for her. Unisex is the new way to so many designers, wanting to break the rules of what we wear and how we wear it. Boxy and roomy jackets, quilt type skirts, sequin tops, and oversized silhouettes were all part of the SS17 collection, while flowery Hawaiian prints were matched with fish net tops and skirts; creating an eccentric outfit.
The styling is, of course, very Vivienne Westwood, crazy and sometimes over the top, but you can certainly deconstruct all the garments and see how these pieces are well constructed and can work with more simple pieces.
