Following the individual style challenge post from last week and the big speech about what inspires me, today I’m going to talk about one of the inspirations that I use when I put together an outfit!
I always admired and took great inspiration from the military influences in fashion… As I think they add an extra layer of refinement. Whether it’s a coat, an accessory (like a badge), or a hat; the military style has always been a huge success in collections for British and international brands.
So to follow this idea, i’ve put together an army inspired outfit starting from a silver pin given to me by “Alice Made This”, a unique British brand that really embraces the military vibe, architecture, geometry, and aims to create very special lapel pins (in different materials, such as silver, gold, brass, rhodium etc), cuff links and other small accessories.
What makes this brand so incredible? The enormous attention they put into the tiniest detail, and the story behind the process of their creations.
The one I picked is the Benedict silver pin (gold is also available), which is the elegant square shaped one featuring three tiny geometric shapes. These also come in diamond and circle variations, as lapel pins or cufflinks, and the awesome trivia is that they represent the military symbols for air, land and sea.
I styled Benedict by placing it on the top part of my coat to add that cool finish. As mentioned before, the whole outfit keeps a military vibe; from the coat with the shearling collar, to the half neck turtle jumper.
This editorial was shot while on holiday in Dublin with my partner, and I’ve been snapped while walking around Trinity college, and crossing the River Liffey, and I think the Irish capital perfectly reflects the idea behind my look and what “Alice made This” is all about.
